IITJEE also provides JEE Extended Merit list (JEE EML) with the common merit list of students. This list is not the waiting list for admission in any IITs, IT-BHU, Varanasi and ISM Dhanbad.
This list is only meant for admission in few research oriented new Engineering colleges.
The scope in these colleges are not good, There is no link between these colleges and IIT.
So, by taking admission in these colleges on basis of JEE Extended Merit list (EML) will not help you to get good carrier in Engineering field. It will be better to opt for NIT on the AIEEE rank.
The Candidates appearing in the EML are not eligible for admission into IITs, IT-BHU, and ISMU, and will not be called for counselling of JEE-2010.
The list of institutions that will be using the EML of JEE-2010 is given below. The list may be updated time to time.

The quoted text is wrong, in parts. Some of the institutes which admit students on the basis of the EML i.e. the IISERs are not Engineering Colleges. They are institutions for Basic Sciences, with a focus on research, NOT Engineering Colleges. There are only a few research-institutions in India that offer Courses in Sciences, from the Undergraduate to the PhD level. In that sense, these are not only a rather exclusive bunch of institutions, but premier too. Yes, they are new, but being Government institutions, their faculty is pretty good, comparable to even some of the established institutions.
So, the question of 'the scope being bad' does not arise. If you intend to pursue Engineering, then, of course, these institutes aren't Engineering Colleges at all. So, you should anyway go to NITs or other Engg. colleges. But, someone who is desirous of pursuing Sciences, they provide extremely good 'scope'. Once in them, you can pursue your Integrated-Masters, and PhD under the same roof, and under the guidance of a good faculty. And, since their setup, they have grown in reputation and are well-known in the Science arena.
For instance, their students get very good opportunities in summer schools, organised by reputed Academies and Institutions.
You can check their Websites for faculty and Courses taught and the accredittion. They have no links to IITs.
If the only 'scope' intended is getting high-salaries, then you are probably anyway better off doing BTech and MBA, or Commerce, not Sciences at all, unless you are ready to slog a bit more than the rest.
And, yes, I am not a student of the IISERs, so, am not compelled to make those comments. However, I am from the Science Community and hence am making those remarks from experience.
